Apollo’s Angel’s: A History of Ballet - Jennifer Homans
Despite the claim that the sources are relatively thin, Homans does an amazing job tracing the history of ballet from its origins in the French court to its spreading across Europe. She examines how the artform changed with inventions such as more flexible dance shoes and how it changed as it travelled to Russia and England. It’s a comprehensive and fascinating account of this elite artform.

Interview With the Vampire - Season 1 & Season 2 (AMC/Netflix)
I’ll admit I was hesitant going into this one. I grew up with Twilight being the primary influence on the vampire genre, and that was enough to turn me off it (except for the campy and outrageous What We Do in the Shadows). But I gave this show a chance, and I’m so glad I did. Jacob Anderson (Louis) and Sam Reid (Lestat)’s chemistry is absolutely electric. The two are also powerhouses when it comes to acting. I don’t want to spoil it, but there is a scene of them together near the end of season 2 that is absolutely gut-wrenching. While I may never be a superfan of the vampire genre, this show may keep me hooked for a little while.
